It was just over five months from the GM stand at the New York Motorama show in January to its first car to roll of the production line on June 30, 1953. The Corvette was about to introduce the American car market to sports cars. Off to a bit of a slow start Corvettes were always a special marque, very few 53-54-55 Corvettes were built and in 1992 Chevy finally produced 1,000,000 Corvettes. Thus their rarity creates value and its performance makes a Corvette one of the most desirable cars to own. The early cars are now highly desirable and growing in popularity, only 3,640 Corvette's were built in 1954. Vehicle is finished in the original White. The paint is like new and shows beautifully. Fitted in red leather in the correct pattern, the seats are very comfortable and look gorgeous. Dash instruments look great and work properly. New for 1954 was a Beige top and includes correct dated restored Plexiglas side curtains. Very few changes occurred from its introduction year. Soft tops were now Beige and the exhaust was re-designed. The biggest change was a quality control move, plants were considering another location and the 1954 Vettes began a new life coming out of the St.Louis plant. Being hand made in Michigan the Missouri plant main objective was to build a real production car for the public. It served Chevrolet well pumping out 300 cars per month. The fit and finish could still be improved but many consider the 54 Vettes the finest of the 235ci bunch. Right now the early Corvette market is going stronger and faster then most of the American cars. The early Vettes have always been the ultimate Collector Corvette and currently on the market they can be found advertised as high as $299,000. This car is an excellent investment opportunity you can enjoy on a daily basis.
