UP FOR AUCTION IS A GORGEOUS LOOKING 1957 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE ROADSTER WITH HARDTOP THAT IS DEFINITELY A SIGHT TO BEHOLD. JUST AESTHETICALLY RESTORED! JAW DROPPING ORIGINAL GUNMETAL GRAY CRUISER FOR THE COLLECTOR OR ENTHUSIAST TO ENJOY!.
Vehicle comes from New Jersey, where it has resided for the last few years. The car has basically been in storage for quite a while, most of the 90s and 2000s, until the last couple of years, when it was taken out and gone through to put back on the road. I received the car a few months ago and it was in very good shape to begin with, sporting non-original off-white paint that must have been done in the 80s, but the body was beautifully straight and there was NO RUST to speak of on the outer panels. I took it to my body shop and they took the car down to bare metal and repainted it in the original Gunmetal Gray color with high-quality PPG type base/clear and it came out great. Very clean and straight lines and hardly any putty was used in this car! Once that was done, I had the seat reupholstered with new covers, and just did some detail work to make it look great.
Under the hood lies the original #s matching 292ci V8 motor (this is a C code car as you can tell by the VIN number), which has been converted to a 4bbl some time ago. Transmission is the original 3 speed manual and shifts excellent with no issues. I've had the car both on the highway and around town and it drives pretty damn good with lots of torque, yet it's extremely quiet and sounds like a stock car. Only some minor issues to take care of before you can drive this car everyday with no worries.
Interior is in VERY GOOD condition throughout. The seat has been reupholstered recently and is in NEW condition. Door panels are very clean. Carpeting is presentable and in good shape. Dash is presentable as well with no rips, but droopy on the passenger side for some reason. Overall a nice driver quality interior that shows very well and needs nothing but you to get in and drive in it.
Mechanically the car is nearly TURN-KEY and runs/drives great. Motor starts up easily and sounds great and transmission shifts very well. Clutch is a little high and should be replaced in the next few months, but it still performs excellent with NO slippage. Brakes work well, although I believe one of the front wheel cylinders needs replacing as it leans to one side when braking hard, and one of the rear drums may be locked up as the car feels very heavy. The frame is VERY GOOD on this car, as are the floorboards which seem to be rust-free. Trunk pan is nice as well with some prior work from what I could see, but looks fairly good.
This being a 50+ year old car, it is NOT perfect anymore. Here's a list of small things needing attention. Fender skirts are fiberglass reproductions and have not been installed yet but come with the car. Exhaust seems to be original and is rusting in a few places, including the rear passenger side tailpipe so it should be replaced soon. The carburetor on the car is a little too big for the motor and should be replaced with a more suitable one (although my mechanic calibrated it so that it would work with this car without dumping too much fuel). Seat track needs to be adjusted. Missing hardtop side latches (I believe I have one, but not installed). The air cleaner does not allow for the hood to close as the currect carburetor sits a little too high. Trunk lock should be replaced. Couple of dash gauges not working (clock and sometimes tachometer). Body bushings should be replaced as they're worn. Carburetor fuel line has a very slow leak. Driver's side window glass cracked. Chrome is VERY NICE but not perfect. That's about all I was able to find from my inspection. I may have missed a few things so please keep that in mind.
